a community driven project
The Dreamweaver Project is an initiative borne out of Cecille’s fierce passion for advocacy, fashion, and love for the Tboli community.
“I made a life-long dream come true in 2019. I donated 100% of my cash prize from winning Mrs. Philippines America 2019 to Gono Hofo Heritage Center in my birthplace, Lake Sebu. The funds went to purchasing raw materials and improving their equipment for hand-loom weaving and craftsmaking. This was after I took Fashion Merchandising classes at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York and applied what I learned to help women of the tribe start a sustainable source of income. I’ve always been compelled to find a way to give back to the loving community that collectively raised me, and I believe this is a start. Find out more about my advocacy and how you can be a part of a greater cause. ”

Tboli life and the practice of ancient folk ways, arts and craft can be found in the municipalities of Lake Sebu and Tboli, South Cotabato. These towns are home to ancient Tboli houses, artifacts, historical sites, landmarks, and all tangible heritage of Tboli people. South Cotabato, a province in Mindanao home to many indigenous tribes, is affectionately called “Land of the Dreamweavers”, named after the community of artisans who weave fabric inspired by their dreams.
what we’ve accomplished thus far:
1.
We provided initial funding to purchase raw materials such as abaca fiber, natural dyes, dye fixatives, wax, saki (shell for shining and ironing finished product) and thread. We also delivered brand new equipment such as sewing machines, professional fabric scissors, measuring tapes, cauldrons for boiling abaca fiber, etc. We also improved their existing equipment by sponsoring the repair of hand looms for weaving of T’nalak (sacred Tboli fabric) and fandi nedol (traditional skirt).
2.
We increased their current income by purchasing their existing products, thereby providing fresh capital to produce more handmade items. We also showcased their masterpieces in the global stage through effective marketing, and increased the demand for their craft abroad.
3.
We have begun the process of ensuring sustainability and future profitability of Tboli weaving and craftsmaking. Supporting the artisans in order to make them profitable also assists with the preservation of the culture and heritage of the Tboli people, keeping weaving practices alive for generations to come.
